Chios Fast Facts

Chios page at Wikipedia The population of Chios is about 52,290 people (as of 2001) with 350 sq miles as an area. Its main agricultural products are mastic, olives, grapes, wine, olive oil, and figs. A mastic plant produces a hard resin-substance which is used for baking. It is also used in Turkish Delight.

[Mom] Here's a site I found by googling Chios images. It gives the history of ancient Chios and the Greek myth that tells how Chios got it's name.

Service Project

[Brandon's mom, 4/12] The Service Project will be a bake sale to raise money for (What charity??).

Date of bake sale: Sunday April 15th at 2:00 at Emily's house (Helen, please confirm availability)

Emily: my mom says we can't sell at our street but just up the road ther is a store that my baby sitter carrie j. works at called Sandpiper. she will let us do it there. + it is a very busy place!

Chariot Design

[Brandon's Mom 4/2] The work on the chariot yesterday went very well. Thank you everyone! The next meeting will be on Monday April 9th at 1:30pm. Bring your swim suits for hot tub after. The group will paint the chariot, let it dry, and then apply any stickers you want. suggestions - "flames" on the side and the word, "CHIOS" letter stickers on the back. Brandon's parents will get all the paint. Everyone looks for appropriate stickers.

The word 'Chariot' comes from the Latin word 'Carrus'.

(Emily's Mom) see my comments above...Sorry we missed Sunday Emily had a horse show all day. You guys are doing such a great job!

BRANDON - enter results of chariot building. Post pictures.

T-Shirt Design

Assignment: create a T-shirt for your city-state

//Mariam: We'll have starfit blue t-shirts from walmart or target. then, on the front, we'll add iron on letters that spell out chios (obviously) and we'll put our own handprints on it. on the back, we'll have a special number that we chose ourselves, and our greek nick name (for example my nick name is Athena!)

[Brandon's mom 4/12] I bought royal blue t-shirts for everyone. What color letters do you all want for "CHIOS"? What color for your nicknames? What color paint do you want for the handprint?

Gold letters will be very hard to find and won't show up very well against the royal blue. I would recommend WHITE.

Writers

[Brandon] I think I have found the writers of the medea, oedipus rex, and agamemnon, but these days with the internet, you just can trust anybody you don't know.

Agamemnon: Aeschylus

Oedipus Rex: Sophocles

Medea: Euripides

1156 Ivy Hill Ct. Mableton GA 30126

Grant- my mom said we could do the t-shirts at my house

.Hey Emily, could you not right in the middle of the 'writers' paragraph? You cut it right off!
