[edit] Installing the Cartographer Agent Using the Windows Graphical Installer Program
Clicking on the Release.exe file brings up the first dialog.
If you wish to continue, select Next. That brings up the license dialog. You must agree with the software license in order to continue. This installer, however, does not force you to scroll through the license text. The license agreement can be found here and here.
Next, choose the location to install the Cartographer agent distribution. The default is displayed. We highly advise that you not change the default.
After selecting the location, the installer unpacks its files and places them in the install directory. If it too quickly scrolls through the list, then congratulations -- you have a fast computer!
The installer then asks if you would like to create the service entry in the Windows Service Control Manager. Select Yes if you want the Cartographer agent to automatically start at system boot time.
The installer then asks if you would like to create the shortcut to the Cartographer system tray application. Creating the shortcut will allow it to start each time the system boots and users log on.
Next, the installer asks if you would like to start the Cartographer agent now. Select Yes, the default. Why else would you be installing the software?
The installer then asks if you'd like to start the Cartographer system trap application. Select Yes, the default, if you'd like yet another icon (though less annoying than the average bear) in your system tray.
Finally, the installer is finished and wants to let you know what a great job it did automating the install process and reducing IQ required, to be a systems administrator, to that of a monkey.
[edit] Uninstalling the Cartographer Agent Using the Windows Graphical Uninstaller Program
First, Windows asks you if you really meant to select Cartographer for uninstall. Select Yes to continue.
Then, the Cartographer uninstaller asks if you really want to uninstall. Select Next to continue. The uninstaller does not ask you why, however, like some uninstallers do.
The uninstaller asks from where the uninstaller should un-install. If for some strange reason you ignored the default location during install, now is your chance to specify that location. Since you installed into the default directly, simply take the default and select Next to continue.
The uninstaller then asks for your patience while it stops the Cartographer agent and system tray application (if applicable). It can take up to 30 seconds to stop Cartographer due to the fact that it has many threads doing many things and the installer is trying to shut them down cleanly. Since we are uninstalling, why do we care if Cartographer is shut down cleanly?
Watch the files being deleted in real time!
The uninstaller is finished and wants to let you know what a great job it did of automating the uninstall process. Acknowledge that greatness and select Finish to exit.
