Installing the Cartographer GUI Using the Windows Graphical Installer

Double-clicking on the instal exe starts the installer. Prior to displaying the Welcome Screen, the installer first checks to see if Java is installed. If it is, the installer jumps right to the Welcome Screen. If not, a confirmation dialog is presented.

Click Yes to continue or No to exit the installer. Without Java, the Cartographer GUI will not run but you can certainly continue and add Java later. Once this hurdle is complete, the Welcome Screen will be displayed.

You are then presented with yet another license agreement, which you will probably never read, but which you must Agree to.

Choose an installation directory. The default is \program files\cartographer gui. Click Install to continue.

After selecting the location, the installer unpacks its files and places them in the install directory. If it too quickly scrolls through the list, then congratulations -- you have a fast computer!

The installer then writes various registry entries identifying the software, version, publisher, and publisher website then asks the user to click Next to continue.

Finally, the installer is finished and wants to let you know what a great job it did automating the install process and reducing IQ required, to be a systems administrator, to that of a monkey. Click Finish to get rid of this last dialog and get on with your life.

Uninstalling the Cartographer GUI Using the Windows Graphical Uninstaller

First, Windows asks if you really wanted to uninstall the Cartographer GUI. Click Yes if you really meant to.

Then, the Cartographer GUI uninstaller asks you again if you really want to uninstall. Select Next to continue. The uninstaller does not ask you why, however, like some uninstallers do.

Gui-uninstall-2.png

The uninstaller asks from where the uninstaller should un-install. If for some strange reason you ignored the default location during install, now is your chance to specify that location. Since you installed into the default directly, simply take the default and select Next to continue.

Because the uninstall process is so simple, the dialog that scrolls the names of files being deleted will flash by in an instant. The uninstaller is finished and wants to let you know what a great job it did of automating the uninstall process. Acknowledge that greatness and select Finish to exit.

Then, Windows wants you to acknowledge what a great job it did of launching the uninstaller. Acknowledge Windows' greatness and select OK to exit.
